Scipture Alone VS. Catholic Sacred Tradition

There are areas of agreement that evangelicals have with Roman Catholics. But there are also massive areas of total disagreement that set the two in opposition. One of the primary areas of disagreement, the one that drives all the rest, is ultimate authority. In every significant discussion on spiritual matters, there will have to be an accepted base of authority. Until that ultimate authority is established, two people will never have a common place from which to critique other issues. Evangelicals say that Scripture alone is our source for authoritative truth. Catholics say that ultimate authority is Scripture plus the sacred tradition of the Roman Catholic church. Catholicism teaches that Scripture itself points us to an authority that comes from sacred tradition and the catholic church’s authoritative interpretation of Scripture. The evangelical position and the Catholic position are in opposition. The link below is a response I wrote to a catholic regarding this issue.
